Sangu Patuju, the first multiethnic percussion music community in Palu, Central Sulawesi, will collaborate with former God Bless drummer Gilang Ramadhan Kartahadimadja, in the opening act of Palu Salonde Percussion in Friday, 10 August 2018. Palu Salonde Percussion curator Smiet Lalove said that it was Sangu Patuju’s third collaboration with Gilang Ramadhan. Previous collaborations were at the 2016 and 2017 Pesona Palu Nomoni Festivals.
Therefore Smiet believed that the collaboration will go smoothly. Just like the past two events, Gilang would play a specialized drum set that has been modified to produce unique Palu-style sounds. “We’ve successfully collaborated with Mas Gilang for two years. Already we played along, without rehearsal,” Smiet said. The percussion musician hoped that this time the collaboration would be harmonious.
However, Smiet admitted that the upcoming performance would need extra preparation. Smiet acted as the composer. Besides having to harmonize Gilang’s drum beats with traditional percussion, he also has to prepare Gilang’s solo act.
Gilang Ramadhan is also scheduled to attend the “Karya Tanpa Batas” percussion composition workshop in Central Sulawesi Cultural Park on 12 August 2018, 10.00–12.00 WITA, where he and international composer Sutrisno Hartana would be mentors.
